General description
Oncostatin M (OSM) is a pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the IL-6 family that regulates inflammation, cell differentiation, and tissue remodeling. It is a multifunctional growth regulator with dual functions of inhibiting tumor cell lines and stimulating the proliferation of AIDS-KS cells. Recombinant Human OSM Protein (Y05101) is expressed from mammalian cells. It contains AA Ala 26-Arg 221 (Accession # P13725), and is widely used in hepatocyte differentiation, organoid research, and stem cell biology.
Application
· Hepatocyte Differentiation — Promotes the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into hepatocyte-like cells.
· Liver Organoid Culture — Essential for hepatic organoid growth and liver development.
· Stem Cell Maintenance — Serves as an important regulator of the hematopoietic stem cell niche in the bone marrow.
· Osteogenesis and Neurogenesis — Plays regulatory roles in bone formation and central nervous system development.
· Inflammation and Immune Regulation — Modulates cytokine production and exerts dual pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
· Cancer Research — Inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines without affecting normal cells, demonstrating significant anti-tumor potential.

Backgroud
Oncostatin M, also known as OSM or Oncostatin-M, is a secreted glycoprotein produced primarily by activated T cells, monocytes, and Kaposi‘s sarcoma cells. It is a member of the leukemia inhibitory factor/oncostatin-M (LIF/OSM) family of proteins. OSM functions as a growth and differentiation factor that participates in the regulation of neurogenesis, osteogenesis, and hematopoiesis. It can exert both stimulatory and inhibitory effects on cell proliferation. In liver development, OSM is involved in the maturation of fetal hepatocytes, thereby promoting liver development and regeneration. The protein uses both type I OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of LIFR and IL6ST) and type II OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of OSMR and IL6ST). EastMabBio’s OSM is manufactured with high purity and bioactivity, suitable for serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined culture systems, ensuring consistent performance across extended culture periods.
Q&A
Q1: What is OSM mainly used for?
OSM is primarily used for hepatocyte differentiation, liver organoid culture, stem cell maintenance, osteogenesis, neurogenesis, and cancer research.
Q2: Is this OSM suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant OSM is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant OSM be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
