Interleukin-5 is a lineage-specific cytokine that regulates eosinophil production, differentiation, and survival. It is the principal driver of eosinophilia in allergic diseases and helminth infections, and serves as a therapeutic target in asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes. Recombinant Human IL-5 Protein (Y08701) is expressed from mammalian cells. It contains AA Ile 20 - Arg 134 (Accession # P05113), and is widely used in advanced cell culture, immunology research, and allergy modeling.
Eosinophil Differentiation and Survival — Supports the generation and maintenance of mature eosinophils from bone marrow progenitors.
Allergic Airway Disease Modeling — Induces eosinophilic inflammation in airway epithelial and organoid systems.
Helminth Immunity Research — Investigates Th2-mediated protective immunity against parasitic infections.
Eosinophil Degranulation Studies — Models immunoglobulin-dependent and cytokine-triggered effector responses.
Serum-Free Culture Systems — Suitable for chemically defined and xeno-free cell culture media.

Interleukin-5, also known as IL-5 or T cell replacing factor, is a disulfide-linked homodimeric cytokine that signals through a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL-5Rα and the common β-chain shared with IL-3 and GM-CSF receptors. This receptor configuration restricts IL-5 activity primarily to the eosinophil lineage, with IL-5Rα expression largely confined to eosinophils and basophils. IL-5 activates JAK2-dependent STAT5 signaling that promotes eosinophil precursor proliferation, terminal differentiation, maturation, and extended survival while preventing apoptosis. The cytokine also primes mature eosinophils for immunoglobulin-dependent degranulation and enhances their tissue migration capacity through upregulation of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors. In allergic asthma, IL-5-driven eosinophilia contributes to airway hyperresponsiveness, mucus hypersecretion, and chronic tissue remodeling. Therapeutic monoclonal antibodies targeting IL-5 or its receptor have demonstrated clinical efficacy in severe eosinophilic asthma and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. EastMabBio's IL-5 enables researchers to establish eosinophil cultures from human bone marrow or peripheral blood CD34+ cells and to model eosinophilic airway inflammation in epithelial organoid and co-culture systems.
Q1: What is IL-5 mainly used for?
IL-5 is primarily used for eosinophil differentiation, allergic airway disease modeling, helminth immunity research, and eosinophil degranulation studies.
Q2: Is this IL-5 suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant IL-5 is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant IL-5 be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped on dry ice with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during international transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
