General description
Interleukin-1 alpha is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine that mediates immune responses, fever induction, and acute phase reactions. It plays a central role in innate immunity and sterile inflammation, driving the activation of endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cell recruitment. Recombinant Human IL-1α Protein (Y01921H) is expressed from E. coli cells. It contains AA Ser 113 - Ala 271 (Accession # Q53QF9), and is widely used in advanced cell culture, immunology research, and inflammation modeling.
Application
· Inflammation and Immune Activation Studies — Induces pro-inflammatory responses in macrophages, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts.
· Acute Phase Response Modeling — Stimulates hepatocyte production of C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A.
· Fever and Pyrogenicity Research — Investigates hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activation mechanisms.
· Wound Healing and Tissue Repair — Promotes keratinocyte migration and angiogenic factor secretion.
· Serum-Free Culture Systems — Suitable for chemically defined and xeno-free cell culture media.

Backgroud
Interleukin-1 alpha, also known as IL-1A or hematopoietin-1, is a member of the IL-1 cytokine family. Unlike IL-1α, IL-1β is constitutively expressed in a wide variety of cell types and can function as an alarmin when released from damaged or dying cells. It signals through the IL-1 receptor type I (IL-1RI) in complex with IL-1RAcP, activating MyD88-dependent NF-κB and MAPK signaling cascades. IL-1β is unique among cytokines in that its precursor form (pro-IL-1β) retains full biological activity and can translocate to the nucleus to regulate gene transcription independently of membrane receptor signaling. In cell culture, IL-1β serves as a potent activator of endothelial cell adhesion molecule expression, fibroblast proliferation, and synovial cell inflammatory responses, making it invaluable for modeling rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and sterile tissue injury.
Q&A
Q1: What is IL-1α mainly used for?
IL-1α is primarily used for inflammation modeling, immune activation studies, acute phase response research, and wound healing investigations.
Q2: Is this IL-1α suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant IL-1α is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant IL-1α be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped on dry ice with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during international transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
