General Description
Epidermal Growth Factor is a potent mitogen that stimulates proliferation and differentiation of epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and keratinocytes. It is an essential component of organoid culture media and serum-free formulations for diverse epithelial cell types. Recombinant Human EGF Protein (Y00801) is expressed from mammalian cells. It contains AA Asn 971 - Arg 1023 (Accession # P01133), and is widely used in advanced cell culture, organoid research, and epithelial biology.
Application
· Organoid Culture — Drives epithelial cell proliferation in intestinal, gastric, and mammary organoid systems.
· Keratinocyte and Epithelial Cell Expansion — Supports growth of skin and mucosal epithelial cells.
· Wound Healing Research — Models re-epithelialization and tissue regeneration processes.
· Cancer Cell Proliferation Studies — Investigates EGFR-mediated oncogenic signaling pathways.
· Serum-Free Culture Systems — Suitable for chemically defined and xeno-free cell culture media.

Backgroud
Epidermal Growth Factor, also known as EGF or URG, was originally isolated from mouse submaxillary glands and identified by its ability to accelerate eyelid opening in newborn mice. It is synthesized as a large transmembrane precursor that is proteolytically cleaved to release the mature 53-amino acid peptide. EGF signals through the EGF receptor (EGFR/ERBB1), a receptor tyrosine kinase that homodimerizes or heterodimerizes with ERBB family members to activate RAS-MAPK, PI3K-AKT, and STAT signaling cascades. In organoid culture, EGF is the universal driver of epithelial cell proliferation, working in concert with Wnt agonists and BMP inhibitors to sustain stem cell populations and enable long-term passaging. Its mitogenic activity extends to fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and diverse epithelial cell types, making it indispensable for skin tissue engineering, corneal regeneration, and cancer research.
Q&A
Q1: What is EGF mainly used for?
EGF is primarily used for organoid culture, epithelial cell expansion, wound healing research, and cancer cell proliferation studies.
Q2: Is this EGF suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant EGF is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant EGF be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped on dry ice with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during international transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
