General description
Keratinocyte Growth Factor is an epithelial-specific mitogen that promotes the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of keratinocytes and other epithelial cell types. It plays a critical role in wound healing, mucosal protection, and tissue regeneration without stimulating fibroblast or endothelial cell growth. Recombinant Human FGF-7 Protein (Y05921H) is expressed from E. coli cells. It contains AA Cys 32 - Thr 194 (Accession # P21781), and is widely used in advanced cell culture, dermatology research, and mucosal protection studies.
Application
· Keratinocyte and Epithelial Cell Proliferation — Drives growth of skin, oral, and corneal epithelial cells.
· Wound Healing and Re-epithelialization — Accelerates closure of cutaneous and mucosal wounds.
· Radiation-Induced Mucositis Protection — Models tissue-sparing effects in oral and intestinal mucosa.
· Lung Epithelial Repair — Supports alveolar type II cell proliferation and surfactant production.
· Serum-Free Culture Systems — Suitable for chemically defined and xeno-free cell culture media.

Backgroud
Fibroblast Growth Factor 7, also known as FGF-7 or KGF, is a member of the FGF7 subfamily that signals exclusively through the epithelial-specific FGFR2IIIb receptor isoform. This restricted receptor distribution confines FGF-7 activity to epithelial cells, creating a paracrine signaling mechanism by which mesenchymal-derived FGF-7 regulates epithelial behavior during development, homeostasis, and repair. FGF-7 is produced primarily by fibroblasts in the dermis and mesenchymal cells in various organs, establishing a directional signaling axis from stroma to epithelium. In the skin, FGF-7 promotes keratinocyte proliferation and migration during wound healing while suppressing terminal differentiation until appropriate tissue architecture is restored. In the lung, FGF-7 protects against injury-induced alveolar damage and promotes type II pneumocyte proliferation. Clinically, recombinant FGF-7 (palifermin) is approved for reducing the incidence and duration of severe oral mucositis in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In cell culture, FGF-7 is indispensable for establishing and maintaining epithelial cell lines, modeling wound healing processes, and investigating the mesenchymal-epithelial interactions that govern tissue homeostasis and regeneration.
Q&A
Q1: What is FGF-7 mainly used for?
FGF-7 is primarily used for keratinocyte proliferation, wound healing research, mucositis protection modeling, and lung epithelial repair studies.
Q2: Is this FGF-7 suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant FGF-7 is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant FGF-7 be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped on dry ice with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during international transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
