General description
Unlike Holo‑Transferrin (the iron‑saturated form), Apo‑Transferrin primarily acts as an iron scavenger – it competitively binds free iron, thereby precisely regulating the iron concentration in the culture medium. Both forms can bind to transferrin receptor 1 (TfR‑1), though Holo‑Transferrin exhibits higher affinity. Recombinant Bovine APO-Transferrin Protein (Y04544) is expressed from mammalian cells. It contains AA Val 20 - Pro 704 (Accession # Q29443), and is widely used in cell culture media supplementation, iron metabolism studies, and biopharmaceutical applications.
Application
Serum‑free / chemically defined media – Serves as a critical component in serum‑free and low‑serum media, providing iron‑transport function.
Cultured beef production – Replaces serum‑derived transferrin in chemically defined culture systems for bovine muscle satellite cells.
Bovine embryonic stem cell (bESC) culture – Maintains iron homeostasis and supports pluripotency in bESC culture.
Bovine mammary epithelial cell culture – Supports the growth and differentiation of milk‑producing cells.
Iron metabolism research – Studies cellular iron uptake, release, and regulation under iron‑deficient conditions.
Bovine fetal development research – Models iron transport and nutrient delivery during bovine pregnancy.

· It is recommended to redissolve in sterile deionized water.
Backgroud
Apo-transferrin is the iron-free form of transferrin that binds two ferric iron atoms with high affinity to become holo-transferrin. This iron-binding capacity makes transferrin essential for regulating free iron levels and delivering iron to proliferating cells. In cell culture, apo-transferrin allows researchers to control iron supplementation precisely, preventing the toxic effects of free iron while ensuring adequate iron availability for DNA synthesis and metabolism.
Q&A
Q1: What is the difference between Apo‑Transferrin and Holo‑Transferrin?
Apo‑Transferrin is the iron‑free form, which acts primarily as an iron scavenger – it competitively binds free iron to precisely control iron concentration in the medium. Holo‑Transferrin is the iron‑saturated form, continuously releasing iron.
Q2: Is this PDGF-AB suitable for serum-free culture systems?
Yes. EastMabBio recombinant PDGF-AB is compatible with serum-free, xeno-free, and chemically defined media systems.
Q3: How should recombinant PDGF-AB be stored?
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, aliquot and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Q4: What shipping conditions are used?
Products are shipped on dry ice with validated cold-chain packaging to maintain stability during international transportation.
Q5: Do you provide QC documents?
Yes. COA, MSDS, TSE-BSE statements, endotoxin reports, bioactivity data, and additional QC documentation are available upon request.
